To experience
Relief so profound
Exposed to
Climate so unforgiving
Among the desert’s
Many victims:
My haughty ego
And petty worries
Matters unworthy
Of a life
Worth living
Among the desert’s
Many victims:
My haughty ego
And petty worries
Matters unworthy
Of a life
Worth living
Because somewhere
Is always a state of mind
And my mind is always somewhere
Reminded of the virtues:
Steadfast focus
Attention to detail
And a good tripod
Rain quells nature’s sounds
No songbirds sing
No children shout
Ours are the only ears
To hear
The gentle white-noise patter
Of rainfall
Coming back to Earth
A small man
Of no small mass
A big heart
A wise soul
Both worn
Close to the surface
Until
Somehow
We learn to forget
We’re children
A car parks beside mine
Released from its confines
A small boy, about five
Runs over to stand beside me
For a moment surveying our domain
I remind myself
The chaos of such moments
Brings change
The necessity of it
The inevitability of it
Bringing light
To darkness
Bringing purpose
To doubt
Bringing meaning
To listlessness
