But unharmed
With closed eyes
Quiet mind
Feel the wind
Ruffled and
Unsteadied
Solid stance
Discovered
Stronger now
Balance found
Face the wind
Face the rush
Of events
Step forward
Ruffled and
Unsteadied
Solid stance
Discovered
Stronger now
Balance found
Face the wind
Face the rush
Of events
Step forward
But there
The resort so close
I nearly feel the warmth
Of the golden window light
The frontage seems
To brace against the weather
Like I sometimes do in a storm
Arms outstretched
Head on into the rippling wind
Rain quells nature’s sounds
No songbirds sing
No children shout
Ours are the only ears
To hear
The gentle white-noise patter
Of rainfall
Coming back to Earth
In torrents
Of mud
And rock
And trees
Wiping away bridges
Wiping away people
The road broke down
So access broke down
But the ducks
Won’t have much longer
To paddle in open water
Gone from memory
As if
They’d never
Happened
If only I had the eyes
Of old father time
I could see the rock raging
Dropping aeons of boulders
Upon the valley floor
Like hailstones
From sandstone clouds
The Rain
The Sun
The Cold
The Heat
In the many battles of opposites
Nothing lasts forever
Except balance
