Nothing in the rearview
But what I carry with me
Eyes forward
Movin’ on
Leavin’ all the dust
Behind me
Eyes forward
Movin’ on
Leavin’ all the dust
Behind me
And o’er it all
Arced golden steel
To celebrate
The westward move
Some with regret
And, some, disdain
Though most with neither
This nor that
I think not
Of the world I’m in
The present
Not this very day
But all the worlds
I’ve yet to see
Which will also
Fall behind
The same is true
When exploring
Philosophy, science
And relationships
The subject
Of any investigation
Is not always as interesting
As the context of its conditions
Then I turn forward
Take the next step
With a clearer vision
Of the trials and adventures
The path ahead promises
He is a shadow
That is his essence
It surprised me
That I admired him
For his perseverance
For his tenacity
For his will to exist
For his endurance
I close my eyes
Breathe, consciously
And bring up an image
Of tranquility
A memory
A fantasy
A painting
A scene
Hold that in my mind
Breathing in
Breathing out
We learn to speak
In ways elegant
And ignorant
We grow old
Or we don’t
But all of us
We die

Meticulously
Passionately
Obsessively
Lovingly
