Walking on which World?

Nature’s patterns
Repeat
In scale
And context

A Martian landscape?
Or an Earthly detail?

We leave our mark on things
Our names
A symbol
A statement
Of politics
Or preference
Of love
Or hatred
Or indifference
Or ignorance

Here and there the elements conspire
Like where the Earth heaves up
And breathes out strange beauties
From its belly of fire

Like here, where the fires burned
In Yellowstone
And the sky shone purple
Above the sun’s yellow, turned

I seek the openings
In the brick wall of my consciousness

I am not alone on this journey
Many seek the limitations of their world view

I like to just sit
In places of profound beauty
Awed

Quietly contemplating
Looking out
Into myself

There are few things more satisfying
Than sharing something new and beautiful
With family

There’s something primordial
About an amber sun
Settling in over a sea
Foaming against a rocky shore

As if you are there, at the dawn of life
Watching nature stir her organics
Casting upon them the spells
Which will make matter sentient

Sometimes it is difficult to know
A sunrise from a sunset
The coming of the light
From the gathering darkness

There is beauty in both
And what will come
Will come
So best to appreciate the moment

Yes, I have said, many a time
How much I love the desert
And the mountains
On which I bike and ski

But… Oh! If I could choose
Choose anywhere in the world
It would be here, I’d live
In that dark house by the sea

Our best friends illuminate
What we cannot see
Like beacons in the night
To keep us off the rocks

Honour them
When the sun rises
And their guidance
Is no longer required
