At day’s end
Serenity
Transcends presence
Transforms being
I bask
In expansion
Become vivid
In my finite
Infinity
I bask
In expansion
Become vivid
In my finite
Infinity
The noise
The chaos
The violence
But by finding within these
The song
The rhythm
The transformation
Therein I discover
The beauty in all things
Therein awaits
Serenity
Therein am I
Transformed
In the emptiness
Of my quiet mind
I discover the contours
Of being
In Thailand
Malaysia
China
Japan
Though, not the laughing Buddha
The plump one
In the midst of
A rollicking guffaw
No, not that Buddha
Rather, the somber, reflective one
The one it seems
The weight of the world
Rests lightly
On his androgynous shoulders
The light
Flat as the calm sea
And equally tranquil
A scene
Rendered entirely in charcoal and smudge
But for a band of cottony hanging fog
I love also this frozen range
Its crystalline air
With a cutting wind
Driving the storm my way
Stealing my breath
A vulnerable solitude
Presence
Aware, active vigilance
From I know not where
To I know not where
And none of that matters
