Calls to me
Greys and greens
The susurro
Of waves on sand
The whispered wind
In long stemmed grass
Relieve me from
Hard lines and steel
Harsh words and sound
My urban stress
A time before anything lived
And the closest thing to life
Were molecules
Which looked like
The kinda things
You built life with
Beyond the straight
A farther shore
Receding
In the mist
I feel my heart
Thrum in my chest
I feel the heat
Within my soul
I feel the beat
Of wordless rhyme
I am complete
Connected time
A single car approaches me
Then whistles by
The last I’ll see
Before sky fades and daylight flies
But at the edge
Brief silhouette
As sunlight rages
And resists
I love also this frozen range
Its crystalline air
With a cutting wind
Driving the storm my way
Stealing my breath
A vulnerable solitude
Presence
Aware, active vigilance
