The light
But from here
Across the inlet
It resembles only
A small forest of brick and steel
Concrete and glass
Its denizens
Too small to register
More than grey matter
More than thoughts
More than being
More than all the love
I have ever given
In the final moments
I stop
When blood stops

A few inches more
Stillness
An explosion of light

Every now and again
I catch one
A long glorious ride
Exhilaration
Exultation
Delightful experience
All the way to shore
A time before anything lived
And the closest thing to life
Were molecules
Which looked like
The kinda things
You built life with
One sunny Sunday
Death came to my smithy
In his shroud of black
Trailing a shadow, like blood
Spilt on the butcher’s floor
