Replies the fireweed
Where wildfire had scorched the Earth
Resistance is life
Replies the fireweed
Where wildfire had scorched the Earth
Resistance is life
Tumble
Tumble
Tumble down
From the light
Into the chasm below
There to roil
In the miasma
And darkness
The flume
Goes on and on
And I all along
Do keep my head above
Then exit
Into a wider course
And calmer water
Now swim for shore
Clamber up to land
Breathe a heavy sigh
Smoke from distant fires
Mars the clarity of a blue bird day
Find the moment’s beauty
Even the haze cannot mar
While I clear my mind
Of moments past and future
Smoldering there
One breath
Then another
Blow the haze away
In the shadows beneath my consciousness
Dwells a me I barely know
A me of many parts
A friend
A saboteur
A healer
A destroyer
A revolutionary
A gatekeeper
A liberator
A prisoner
An advocate
A critic
All these aspects
Of shadow me
And so many more
Express themselves
In thought, desire and deed
Without consent
Without awareness
Of the me I once believed
Was the only me
Awakening to their existence
Marks the necessity of a journey
The journey begins
With introductions
And acceptance
Where it ends
I cannot know
But I suppose integration
Marks the milestone along the path
Where I become the one
I always believed I was
Daylight wanes
With ecstatic eruptions of colour
While we stragglers
Greedy for celestial glory’s
Every moment
Make our way
To the last ride down
I find serenity in nature
I discover myself in nature’s serenity
Whether paddling across a mountain lake
Ripples and clouds moved by the lightest breeze
A day like a peaceful sigh
Or standing atop an oceanside cliff
Face into the fierce onshore wind
Waves crashing against the rocks below
Rain and spray soaking my clothes
That’s the thing about nature
It has no agenda but to be
To be is a state of impermanence
Whether storm or calm
No matter
These are nought but conscious evaluations
Accompanied by prejudicial metaphors
Nature knows them
As it knows itself
Impermanence
Change
Nature does not accept change
Nature is change
As nature changes
It knows neither content
Nor discontent
I soak myself in nature
To learn its wisdom
As falls the water
So fall I
Into the chasm
The inevitable course
Into the tumult I tumble
Fractured until no more than mist
There in the light discover
The true nature of I
Refracting all hues of possibility
Disassembled I
Finds the path
From broken to whole
Then what remains
But moments lost
In timeless frame
I let them go
And count no more
Just live them all
In endless flow
So none pass by
For none remorse
Nor row against
The river’s course
The ripples
And the rapids play
The challenges
Of every day
The glaciers die
The cold retreats
To summer’s entreat
They’re gone before
Both you and I
