I reach
For the heavens
Anchored to earth and sea
Not yet ready
To soar beyond the clouds
Though I have touched
The sky
I reach
For the heavens
Anchored to earth and sea
Not yet ready
To soar beyond the clouds
Though I have touched
The sky
Heaven and Earth
Aspiration and End
The latter latter
A reminder
Plant my feet
Firmly
On the former latter
You, dear one
On your own stormy passage
Astride God’s wing
These waning days
Rising through your fall
Into His grace
Slowed in wit and voice
Ever keener of spirit
You ascend
Passing through
Deep featureless slumbers
Parting clouds offer
Fleeting glimpses of the love
Gathered ’round you
Then
With swift finality
Through the cloud
Into heaven’s azure
There to witness
God’s full blaze
And in His embrace
The lesser stars
Of those who’d passed
This way before
And there too
The One True Love
You’d lost so long ago
Now with God
He welcomes your return
To Love’s eternity
And so I rise
In heart and soul
Astride the vision
Of an elevated spirit
Always reaching
Heaven bound
Leave my feet
Back on the ground
Flights of fancy
In the sky
Hug the Earth
And breathe a sigh
She couldn’t afford
The stairway to heaven
So there it was
Floating weightless
Just beyond the reach of those
Born too low, or fallen too far
