Upon the desert
Driving daylight’s
Golden rays
Beyond the Earth
But at the edge
Brief silhouette
As sunlight rages
And resists
But at the edge
Brief silhouette
As sunlight rages
And resists
I stop for a moment
Lean up against the fender
In the dry, brittle air
While the engine tinks and cracks
I never tire
Of the small wonders this world offers
Two hundred kilometers
Away from
Anywhere
Nothing but gravel, rock
A winding strip of bitumen
And heat
Travel takes me
To places I could never imagine
Experiences I could never dream
Worlds which seem alien
So I stay
Experience all I can
Give reign to imagination
Until the alien seems mundane
But I shrug
And think to myself
Life itself
Is a surprise
Which always surprises me
Over this world
Of heat and sorrow
Which takes so much
Then leaves so little
In the sand
I dig in roots
In the sun
I bask in life
Pretense
Distraction
Aggrandisement
Avarice
I find my presence
In the present
And in that presence
Is love
Captured by their beauty
Mindful of their warning
