Lingering
The trail from the beach
Transitioning
From bathers and sun-seekers
The summer of crowds
To seekers of solitude
Contemplative connection
With Earth and sea
And self
From bathers and sun-seekers
The summer of crowds
To seekers of solitude
Contemplative connection
With Earth and sea
And self
I find peace, calm
In a space undistracted
By the flash of colour
Or the dominance of black or white
But from here
Across the inlet
It resembles only
A small forest of brick and steel
Concrete and glass
Its denizens
Too small to register
Their loves and lives
All but lost to us
Except for edifices left behind
A story told in rock and refuse
And daytime dreams
Of my construction
Amber gold
Sun wraps the day
In magic hues
A gift to put away
In darkest places
And there stay wrapped
‘Til morning comes
But light
Sweet lover
Always generous
She seeks me
In the dark places
Offers illumination
Insight
Beauty boundless
Marking the pathway
To epiphany
I call for it
In times of need
Or if too dark
It calls on me
It guides me true
Though rarely easy
But I know my path
When e’er I follow
My golden heart
We roll on through
With singing tires
On bitumen
Both dreaming of
This singing land
