A moment
Comes together
Unplanned
Unforeseen
Unforeseeable
Sometimes
The magic
Simply arises
Unplanned
Unforeseen
Unforeseeable
Sometimes
The magic
Simply arises
Not a beach
For laying out towels
Basking in the sun
Building castles
In daylight
Pretty enough
As I drive by
She danced
As if every word she’d ever spoken
Could be translated
To a gesture, a swirl, or a twirl
She danced
And all I knew was
I wanted to be there on the dance floor
With her, now and forever
I the child
Dig down into the beach
Find the water
Swirl sand into slurry
Lift it out
Dripping from fingertips
I will wash away
The tears of my last failure
And gather myself up
To have another go
I know the waves
Will be breaking
Far off the shore
Carrying their foam
Up onto the beach
A young man throws sticks to his dog
Which gleefully, gaspingly
Retrieves them
One more step
