I stand
On the exposed bar of sand
Close my eyes
And listen
For the wind
And the waves
And the shutter click
Counting out the seconds
One by one by one by one

Isolation ~ Pic and a Word Challenge #114
I walk out
Onto the expanse
Of rippled sand
The clouds
Roil and tumble above
In grandiose parade
Across azure sky
With every step
I feel a little smaller
A lone figure
Isolated on an expanding horizon
Until I stop
Breathe deeply
Breathe in all this
Glorious enormity
Art and Life
A moment
Comes together
Unplanned
Unforeseen
Unforeseeable
Sometimes
The magic
Simply arises
Twilight Transformation
On a rocky beach
The large stones worn smooth
By the rhythm of tides
And uncountable waves
Not a beach
For laying out towels
Basking in the sun
Building castles
In daylight
Pretty enough
As I drive by
Golden sunrise
Perched on horizon’s edge
The promise of a new day rising
A wealth of potential
Infinite possibility
She Danced
As if everyone was watching
And all they wanted
Was to see her dance
She danced
As if every word she’d ever spoken
Could be translated
To a gesture, a swirl, or a twirl
She danced
And all I knew was
I wanted to be there on the dance floor
With her, now and forever
Castles ~ Pic and a Word Challenge #44
Children splash and laugh
Swim and frolic
Lay out on towels
In the hot sun
Browning young skin
On the fine grey sand
I the child
Dig down into the beach
Find the water
Swirl sand into slurry
Lift it out
Dripping from fingertips
Wash Away the Tears
For the flood to wane
And the wave to recede
Back to its ocean source
I will wash away
The tears of my last failure
And gather myself up
To have another go
Like Icing
I smell the sea salt
Heavy in the onshore wind
I know the waves
Will be breaking
Far off the shore
Carrying their foam
Up onto the beach
Under A Wan Sun
Under a wan sun
Sintering through the cloud
Throwing speculars here
A weak shadow there
A young man throws sticks to his dog
Which gleefully, gaspingly
Retrieves them
