A matter of scale

A twig
Or a tree
Mountain
Or a mound

Were I to climb out
Upon this leafless bough
Would I be
Of Lilliputian dimension

Misty Stillness

Sometimes, a haze descends
Obscuring all I see
I don’t mind

The misty grey
Becomes a canvas
On which I create worlds

I work hard
With intention
To express
And create

Heed artistry
Inscribe wisdom
Apply passion

I lay bricks
Upon a foundation
Build them up

Until they are taller
Than I

Until they are taller
Than trees

Until they are taller
Than mountains

Not to prove
That I am bigger
But in homage

To what is bigger
Than I

The raindrops fall
On lotus pads
Which float in place
On dappled gleam

A single flower
Still held in bud
Though petals fall
Onto the pond

They tarry there
Before they sink
And come to rest
To where they’ll feed
Next season’s bloom

In this realm
Of time and change
And buddhas long forgotten

I sit
Then breathe
To quiet mind
Of learnings misbegotten

This land once rose
And then it fell
By men of mind besotten

We have landed
On the moon
We’ve trained our eyes
Upon the stars
Looked deep inside
The sun’s corona

We’ve gone as fast
As sound and cheetahs
Slowed down time
To see a bullet
Sped it up
To watch grass grow

Tied to the prow
Long colourful scarves
Honouring the water spirits
And Mae Yanang
Goddess of journeys
A bid for safe passage
And good fortune

Some see superstition
And irrationality
I see a deeper wisdom:
A belief that the world
Should be made beautiful
To honour the spirit
Of existence

The world surprises me
From almost every angle
At almost any time
I take a look at it

When it fails to surprise
I discover, soon enough
I have not been looking
Deeply enough, long enough

They rise
Thrust up
By the collisions
Of Continents

Saw blades
Of rock
And ice
Lifted into sky
