Whytecliff and Ferry, Whytecliff Park, West Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada

Rugged ~ Pic and a Word Challenge #71

It was an old, bitter place
Grizzled and hard

A land made
Of strife
And loss
And longing

Chipped rugged
With malice
And petulance

The sky
Whispered menace
And even a calm sea
Cut rough on the keel
Like sun-baked leather

Willow, Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada

World Awry

In a world gone awry
Yet burgeoning
With the potential
For growth and new life
He clung to the old ways
Like a dead leaf
To a broken stem
On a barren tree
In the dead of winter

He lived
In oblivion
Surrounded by
Possibility

Tantalus Halo, Tantalus Mountain Range, Sea to Sky Highway, Squamish, British Columbia, Canada

Halo

Into the ferocious wind
She stood strong
Fierce and formidable
Hair rippling

Backlit golden strands
Like the halo
Of an angel
Bent on justice

Moon Over Bowen, Howe Sound, Sea to Sky Highway, Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada

Tides

I am a creature
Of my own thoughts
Of my own will
Of my own choice

Or so I think

Reminded by
The tides of seas
The tides of light
As moon circles I
As I circle sun

Not choice
Nor fate
All that is
Circles round
In ebb and flood

Crescent Moon and Evening Star, Howe Sound, Sea to Sky Highway, British Columbia, Canada

Moments Such as This

It is difficult enough
To imagine the infinity
Of space and time
Without trying
To comprehend the immensity
Of my own existence
In just this finite moment

But moments such as this
Fuel my imagination
And stoke my passion
For contemplation

Divine Sunset, Valley of the Gods, From Moki Dugway, Trail of the Ancients, State Route 261, Utah, United States of America

Divine Sunset

I clamber up
The edge of the world
Turn to see the world below
Awash in the light of a failing sun
Fallen far below the dais
On which I stand
Like a god
Lord of all below me
Conqueror of the heavens

A car parks beside mine
Released from its confines
A small boy, about five
Runs over to stand beside me
For a moment surveying our domain

Sunset, Howe Sound, Sea to Sky Highway, British Columbia, Canada

Some Distant Sunset

The heat
Of some distant sunset
Ignites steel rails
Red and yellow hot

While light breezes
Shimmer on the sea
Settling snow to Earth
From branch and bough
Where it once rested

Tenuous Connection, Whytecliff Park, West Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada

Tenuous ~ Pic and a Word Challenge #70

I walk the tenuous path
Connecting here and now to other
Mindful of the tides
And time
Knowing
Not all explorations bear fruit
So I plan my return
With equal care

Moving forward, sometimes
Requires stepping backward
To reconnoitre
To reconsider
To recenter on the here and now
So the paths to possible others
May emerge

A Sheen Below, Howe Sound, Sea to Sky Highway, From Horseshoe Bay, British Columbia, Canada

I Find My Way

The sheen below reflects
The snowcapped peaks far above
Unseen beyond low hanging cloud
While the little tug
She trundles cross the sound
Inbound from points unknown

In this world am I unbound
Softer than the lazy breeze
Which barely ripples cross the sea
Unattached to weighty thoughts
Adrift, perhaps, some might say
Yet guided by the tidal flows

I find my way

Field of Dreams

Change of seasons brings
Change of venue
From a field of green
To my field of dreams
