In land wide open to the sky
A world full lit, naught for shadow
No nook or cranny to explore
I prefer the rise and fall
The twist and turn
Cliche they are
But how I learn
I prefer the rise and fall
The twist and turn
Cliche they are
But how I learn
Only under such conditions
Can the light of both ideas
Converge upon unexplored ground
Where it often illuminates
An insight better than either idea
Ever changing
Never changing
Just like me
Nature’s harmony
Of shade and tone and texture
The way the gull finds the air
Which lifts him into the sky
The foamy leading edge
Of the wave lapping at my feet
Soft light through a rain-spattered window
With a good book and a cozy couch
It took me many years
To discover on my own
The magic in darkness
There was I
Enthralled in such luminous presence
And all I wanted
Was to worship her
A solid from liquid
Carved and shattered
Cracks refilled by molten rock
Uplifted and fractured
Sundered and separated
Tumbled and rolled
Now here
Settled gently
On the shore
Of a still lake
On a quiet dawn
To marvel at the fleeting existence
Of the things that live
Even the tree
Darkness
A few inches more
Stillness
An explosion of light
Darkness
