The Beauty of Mystery

I find serenity
In the mystery
Peace in the unknown

Accept the beauty
In what is revealed

Keep faith in the obscured

There’s a storm
Just this side
Of the horizon

It’s lingered there
As long as I remember

While the horizon calls to me

Sometimes
All a window allows
Is the light of some unknown source
To illuminate a deep
Unsettling darkness

Often
That is enough
To learn the nature of darkness
So I may seek the source
Beyond the world I know

I learn the bounds
Of my sense of beauty
When I see an alien eye
Rendering a familiar form

I am transported
To other worlds
To other dreams
To other insights

I learn my bounds
Then extend them
Beyond what I’d known
Or even dreamed possible

Sometimes
I’ll take the lesser fork
Though I know not where it goes
Or what I’ll see
Or if I’ll find my way
To wherever I was going

Sometimes
I think
The road unknown
Explores as much
The me I do not know
Which is all the more enticing
Than the me I believe is me
