Only when seeking
The wonder of existence
Even the smallest
Only when feeding my awe
In which I become
Infinite
I linger here
With the sun
My fading friend
As the cool night advances
I am clear and light
As the rarefied air
This is what I live for
Finding a new path
To a beautiful place
Rarely visited before
But I live too
For the well-worn trail
The short, easy hike
To a well-known vista
Of no small beauty
Let the world
Fall away
Lose my ground
And a mighty tumult
Become I
And I am never sure
Which outcome I prefer
A mystery revealed
Or mystery secure
But we’d brought our seeds
Planted our trees
Spread our grasses
Harvested the carbon
To surface the roads
To refine the fuel
To run our cars
Until
But for a few facts
Of geology
Meteorology
And astronomy
It was a world
Just like home
