Lao Tzu’s words can be pretty difficult to wrap a Western, science-educated mind around (my own struggle is continuous), beginning with understanding the term “the Tao” itself.

The Entangled Path
Reminding myself
The way through
Entanglement and attachment
Is not easily cleared
I carry compassion
A torch to light my way
Through the darkness of unseeing
I wield mindfulness
A blade to cut my way
Through the brambles of being
Where Am I Going!
Where am I going
Where is this road taking me
How am I going to get past this
I stop
Reconnoitre
Check the maps
Consider my options
Except for some times
Sudden Redirection
Forever, on and on
But, sometimes
I really need to be
Paying attention
If I want to stay on it
The Hard Ride
Raise myself out of the depths
The mire
The hardship
Out of the confusion
And disorientation
If only for a moment
Breathe
Like coming up for air
In the tumult
Of crashing surf
Before the wave
Takes me under
Glimpses
I only have a glimpse
Of the way ahead
Through difficult terrain
Many sections of the path
Remain obscured
And the final destination
Still lies beyond
The visible horizon
The Impassable Way
The way seems impassable
Formidable barriers
Impenetrable walls
But I stand here, now
Beyond so many
Impassable barriers
All along the way
Where I’m Going
Not so much that I know where I’m going
But that I’m going where I know
No fixed destination
No long-term goal
No yellow brick road
Transparent ~ Luminous ~ Supple
As if anyone
Everyone
Can see right into me
Sometimes I feel so luminous
As if anyone
Everyone
Can see my inner light
