On lotus pads
Which float in place
On dappled gleam
A single flower
Still held in bud
Though petals fall
Onto the pond
They tarry there
Before they sink
And come to rest
To where they’ll feed
Next season’s bloom
A single flower
Still held in bud
Though petals fall
Onto the pond
They tarry there
Before they sink
And come to rest
To where they’ll feed
Next season’s bloom
I sit
Then breathe
To quiet mind
Of learnings misbegotten
This land once rose
And then it fell
By men of mind besotten
I miss
The tingling
Resonance
Of your touch
Gather here in peace
Quieting your mind
Listen for my voice
The wisdom of the ancients
I try not to let
My ignorance
Confine my experience
Will it be a photograph
In your mind, an epitaph
Or the sound of my lost laugh
I re-encountered Buddha
Long obscured for me
Made strange by the confines
Of my culture familiar
Wishing it
Each time
To be
Different
