Old Sol burned a hole in the sky
Igniting the wake of our flight
We sailed on
Into the night
Into the darkness
With the hope a new day
Would bring a better light
Old Sol burned a hole in the sky
Igniting the wake of our flight
We sailed on
Into the night
Into the darkness
With the hope a new day
Would bring a better light
He dreamed of another time
A time that never was
In a place that might have been
He dreamed of a bridge
From a land spare and dry
To a fabled city on a hill
He dreamed of a fog
That stood between
Where he was
And where he could be
In the dream
The fog never cleared
He never crossed the bridge
When he woke
He realized the fog
Was the nightmare of his childhood
The bridge was a path
From the child to the man
From who he was
To who he could be
He would never cross the bridge
So long as he held the fears
Of the child
He would never overcome the fears
Until he allowed himself
To feel the child’s pain
The shore
Of a coastal town
The sun goes down
‘Fore night comes round
There we
Recline on the shore
To think no more
Settle no score
‘Til you
Wonder what are we
What will we be
What do I see
So I
Give my heart to you
My love is true
Is your love too?
You say
That it’s you and I
Forever, no lie
Together we sigh
Adieu the day
Which meets its fiery end
Adieu the thoughts
Which plague my dreary head
Adieu the world
Which fills me with a weary dread
To bed
Where downy warmth, my flight
To sleep
Where hope, my dreams alight
To wake
Where sunrise sets the world aright
Beside the sea
Upon this treeless scrap of rock
Verdant grasses grow
A village built
Astride storm battered stone
Safe harbour for the fishers
Sometimes the light
Inexorable
Calls out
All I need
Acknowledge
Become the light
Sometimes the light
In darkness
Seek it
All I need
Resolve
Shed the darkness
Few things are finer
Than a hearty feed
Of unchallenged delight
At some out of the way eatery
Perched on the edge
Of magnificence
I lingered there
For humble light
And crescent moon uncloaked
The sun now bedded for the night
Its glory past
While beauty lingered still
Now a moment of repose
If only in my mind
The day it lingers too
Then home to bed
Soon lingering in dreams
With that I join the sun
Tumble
Tumble
Tumble down
From the light
Into the chasm below
There to roil
In the miasma
And darkness
The flume
Goes on and on
And I all along
Do keep my head above
Then exit
Into a wider course
And calmer water
Now swim for shore
Clamber up to land
Breathe a heavy sigh
Hackles raised
With the advent
Of some unknown
And unknowable
Beyond the fringe
Of a haze
Most dense
A trail
Betwixt and between
Courage unstilled
Curiosity unquenchable
Footfalls not to be denied
I step forward
Into the haze
The unknowable
Becomes known
Only to those
Who enter it
