Flame
Ember
Fire
Burning
Sear
Sizzle
Licking
Blazing
Conflagration
Scorched
Ruffled and
Unsteadied
Solid stance
Discovered
Stronger now
Balance found
Face the wind
Face the rush
Of events
Step forward
The ebb tide comes
The Island transformed
Another rock
Beside the ocean
On a shoreline of nothing
But rock and sand
And I
Might have driven by
Then this moment lost
To the forever
Of infinite unconscious
Insistent weather brings
To harry mountains
Obscure the scene
I travelled far
Intent to see
But…
Soon enough
Beguile me
They dance and play
Revealing games
A silken veil
May hide the charms
But, no, no … please!
Don’t take it off
There I see
Some small creature stand
Up on hind legs
With flicking tail
It looks at me
And chirps a bit
Though, could I see
The immensity of time
With the eyes of this still young Earth
Then peaceful moment lost
Turmoil and cataclysm of tumbling land
And in those eyes, what am I?
But a mote of dust
Lost to infinity
