A ribbon of light
Winds along the valley floor
Swallowed by the mist
A ribbon of light
Winds along the valley floor
Swallowed by the mist
Across the sea a beacon shining
There horizons of my calling
From where the light is ever dim
Leave for beacon’s shores
Now here upon this rocky land
Sailed beyond I’d ever planned
Landed on the farthest rim
Came to beacon’s shores
Now I wait for morning light
When the sun restores my sight
See what comes of change’s whim
Sail to beacon’s shores
With the dawn in eastern rising
Reveal a realm of beauty dazzling
Left a land of darkness grim
Now thrive on beacon’s shores
I’m not sure what I fear
Something in the darkness
Where the light’s too dim
To illuminate
So I rely on the beacon
To guide my way
Toward a point of reckoning
Fear with every step
In equal measure hope
On which I lay my trust
I stand
At the edge
Where calm laps against
Ragged black
Feel both
Light and darkness entwine
Eternal cycle
In the center
I connected to All
The One
Stars and planets step down from the sky
Chasing the departed sun
While I contemplate
My own next steps
Then decide to follow
The beacon’s example
And become the light
Choose to rise
Into glorious dawn
Rather than follow the heavens
Into celestial night
The light within
Too dim
To illumine
My confines
A window
Lets in
The light
Of the world
Slight
Narrow
Itself confined
To a shaft
Enough to illumine
Patterns
Which become bricks
In one wall of my
Confinement
That there is a wall
Unnerves me
But a prison of bricks
Is preferable to one of darkness
So I welcome the light
Invite its wisdom
Its insight
Ask it
Is there more here than the bricks?
A soft, warm chuckle precedes its reply
There is
You will not like much of it
Many things in the light
Seem terrifying
That is the way of life
But so too is there beauty
And love
In the light
And while terror
Is found easily enough
In the darkness
Love and beauty need light
I nodded
Contemplated for a moment
Then turned to the light
I accept this challenge
And so began
The journey to discover
Me
They spoke across a divide
Wide as eternity
Two dim lights
On distant shores
Obscured by the haze
Of time
But for their light
They’d have lost each other
Utterly
Such is the nature of binaries
Each caught in the gravity
Of the other
Their light grew
As they consumed time
With memories
And old promises
Spoken and unspoken
Still to be kept
The haze dispersed
The divide reduced
To a vision
A touch
An embrace
My guide drew silent
I entered the fog alone
Still I found the light
Daylight waning hour
A beacon stands the ready
Darkness guiding light
The path I find myself upon
Began within a vast unknown
In which I couldn’t find my heart
Though the path, it seems
Unwinds in random ways
Through places unfamiliar
A light calls out
Both day and night
Drawing ever nearer
