Old Sol burned a hole in the sky
Igniting the wake of our flight

We sailed on
Into the night
Into the darkness

With the hope a new day
Would bring a better light

Resolve
Shed the darkness

Tumble

Tumble down

From the light
Into the chasm below

There to roil
In the miasma
And darkness

The flume
Goes on and on
And I all along
Do keep my head above

Then exit
Into a wider course
And calmer water

Now swim for shore
Clamber up to land

Breathe a heavy sigh

Engulfs my little craft
So I turn away

A beacon
Calls from the darkness

But the call comes from rocky shoals

Its light is false
I risked wrecking on the shores of distraction

So turn the boat again
Into the fire
And the true light beyond which set it

Sol heads off to bed
Flicks off the lights in the hall
Peace comes with darkness

The Path Through Darkness

Stillness in dark, dense forest
Light trickles through the canopy
Enough to cast shadows of utter black
In near blackness

Trees and roots form vague outlines
A maze of a path
Upon a maze for footfalls

I stumble my way
In a direction which seems
Forward

Progress slow
Or futile
I do not know

No matter
If futile
Step back
Seek another path

In this sense
All paths lead to the light
Failure is to remain complacent
In the darkness

Which let the light in
Amber and warm
To dispel the gloomy darkness
But left the shadows
So I could see both
Where I was going
And where I’d come from
