I’ll remember
All my life
Ever changing
Never changing
Just like me
Ever changing
Never changing
Just like me
Nature’s harmony
Of shade and tone and texture
The way the gull finds the air
Which lifts him into the sky
The foamy leading edge
Of the wave lapping at my feet
Soft light through a rain-spattered window
With a good book and a cozy couch
But for lack
Of soil and sod
What food
Could riches grow?
I the child
Dig down into the beach
Find the water
Swirl sand into slurry
Lift it out
Dripping from fingertips
Such sweet gift I proffered
To other souls
None taking
I discover
What I could never
Imagine
Notes issue
In gentle arpeggio
Strings plucked
And strummed
In this precious slice
Of time allotted
I record her beauty
With all my skill
