She couldn’t afford
The stairway to heaven
So there it was
Floating weightless
Just beyond the reach of those
Born too low, or fallen too far
She couldn’t afford
The stairway to heaven
So there it was
Floating weightless
Just beyond the reach of those
Born too low, or fallen too far
Until I looked through a lens
Clicked the shutter
And took the latent image home
To explore the possibilities
Which alters my idea
Of beauty
Which alters my idea
Of love
And so
My capacity
For compassion
Grows
Leaves submerged
Under tangled reflections
On a night lit fantastic
In the final moments
Of my existence
Here in this dimension
As reality folds in
Upon itself
I manage to get in
One last
Sand
Grain by grain
Wave by wave
Tide by tide
Laid down
Layer upon layer
Until the shoreline
Rises
But I can look back
At a time without industry
Without machines
Without, even, the wheel
