Crescent Moon and Sailboat, Bowen Island, Howe Sound, British Columbia, Canada

Questions for the Crescent Moon

Comfortable in this infinity
Of space and time
Of love and light and meaning

No small finite creature I
Of sight and hands
Of heart and mind and spirit

If it comes down to the question
Is my living owed a purpose
I answer, oh so surely

I live to live
To love and give
My existence is, quite simply, these

Magic Hour, Howe Sound, Sea to Sky Highway, Near Lion's Bay, British Columbia, Canada

Magic Light

Magic hour
Magic light
A beauty
Awe inspired

Closing eyes
Inward look
A glimmer
Heart inspired

Deeper still
Magic light
A beauty
Soul inspired

Into The Wind, Point Reyes Lighthouse, National Seashore, California, United States of America

Into the Wind

Buffeted
But unharmed
With closed eyes
Quiet mind
Feel the wind

Ruffled and
Unsteadied
Solid stance
Discovered
Stronger now

Balance found
Face the wind
Face the rush
Of events
Step forward

The Varnished Sea

Sun descends
On varnished sea
I will rest here
Happily
And watch the world
In faithful turn
End the day
Resplendently

Grand Canyon National Park

There are no greater engineers
Than time, physics and chemistry
Set to work upon this small sphere
Of atoms hurtling through space

Sun Shower, Wild Pacific Trail, Ucluelet, Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada

Winters Coming

Ten thousand years
Since last snow fell
On southern lands

Ten thousand more
When what’s now green
Was naught but fields of ice

Or so the legends say
Antarktica
Where all tribes came

Hard to see
In my mind
The numbers
Of the past

What once were billions
Flight reduced
To millions
In the exodus

From the desert sand
Earth had become
To this plot
Of icy rock

Departure Bay, BC Ferries, Nanaimo to Horseshoe Bay, Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada

Departure Bay

The magic of departure
Invokes the rearward glance
Taking in what’s being left
All I do not carry
The beauty, perhaps the ugly
The darkness, of course the light

No matter the time
The journey intends to take
Some things will I remember
Some will I forget
Which? I leave to discover
Upon this travel’s end

Seeking the Light, Amphitrite Lighthouse, Wild Pacific Trail, Ucluelet, Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada

Light Seeker

Awakening in darkness
I seek the light

Though the intensity
Brings initial pain

Vision soon resolves
Restoring clarity

Grey on Grey, Seagull in Flight, Jericho Park, Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada

Grey on Grey

Grey on grey on grey on grey

Even under leaden sky
There is some magic yet
When lone gull wings
On rippling breeze
Grace in its poise
Careless of thought
Satisfied in arc
And swoop of flight
Which lifts me too
From baleful earth
Between the greys
Of clouds and sea

Sunset Halo, Strait of Georgia, Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada

The Line of Her Departure

The sun skips off the ocean
As if patinaed brass

Sun ring complementing
The line of her departure

In retreat she makes
Some small rippling wake

Much like the sun
As it dips below horizon

The world left behind
Settles into darkness

Continue reading The Line of Her Departure
