On the Forest of Luminous Trees
The tungsten fireflies flit
Like comets
In a Milky Way sky
On a world
Of alien beauties
We’ve given familiar names
So not to feel
So far from home
On a world
Of alien beauties
We’ve given familiar names
So not to feel
So far from home
Though, could I see
The immensity of time
With the eyes of this still young Earth
Then peaceful moment lost
Turmoil and cataclysm of tumbling land
And in those eyes, what am I?
But a mote of dust
Lost to infinity
I miss the uncluttered I
Standing alone
In an expanse of sand
I linger here
With the sun
My fading friend
As the cool night advances
I am clear and light
As the rarefied air
This is what I live for
Finding a new path
To a beautiful place
Rarely visited before
But I live too
For the well-worn trail
The short, easy hike
To a well-known vista
Of no small beauty
Let the world
Fall away
Lose my ground
And a mighty tumult
Become I
And I am never sure
Which outcome I prefer
A mystery revealed
Or mystery secure
But I am drawn
Inexorably
To those of mystery
Promising adventure
Challenge
And discovery
I prefer quests of query
Over sorties of attainment
