Sunshine ~ Pic and a Word Challenge #264

Yellow Chair, Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada
It waited for her
The little yellow chair
At the back of the house
In the little nook
Hidden away
From anyone’s eyes

Late afternoon sunshine
Filtered through
The winter boughs
Eaves and overhangs
Sheltered her
From the usual Vancouver rain

But today
The sun
Fell on
Her little sunshine chair

A cigarette
And long moments
Filled with thoughts
Without consequence
Smalltalk daydreams
To pass the time
In seeming silence
While she chattered
With herself
About nothing

Beside the red house
Which was all red inside
Though the walls were white
And the Late Colonial furniture
In browns and blues

A quiet little moment
Of no small function
Before returning to
The dysfunction within

A small, life-saving moment
Of manufactured sunshine
Amplified
By the trickle of sun
Passing through naked branches

Pic and a Word Challenge

Last week we squinted into the Bright. This week let’s bask in the Sunshine,  or seek something else to inspire you in this photograph of a little yellow chair beside a red house in Vancouver, BC, Canada

The Pic and a Word Challenge is (usually) a weekly creativity prompt offered Mondays.

Each week I provide a photograph of mine along with a single word. The challenge? Use the pic and/or word as points of inspiration to create something — a photograph, a painting, prose, poetry, fiction, non-fiction, longread or just a few words. You are welcome to use these two elements (photograph and word) literally, thematically or metaphorically. If you create both images and words, all the better.

To participate:

  • Use any title you like
  • Your response can be words and/or images
  • You may use my image in your post, or any image you have created
  • Mention that you are responding to the Pic and a Word Challenge
  • Add a link to this post in your response

To help us find your response — whether on WordPress, Instagram, Flicker, Tumblr, etc. — you can also:

  • Add a comment on this post to announce your response
  • Apply the tag/hashtag “Pic and a Word Challenge” or “#picandawordchallenge” to your post

Each week, I’ll list the previous week’s responses at the end of the new challenge. I may also share some on my social media: Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Tumblr, etc.

The previous challenge was: Bright

Diminished Light, Howe Sound, Sea to Sky Highway, British Columbia, Canada copy
Challenge #263 ~ Bright

The word for last week’s Pic and a Word Challenge #263 was Bright, along with this photograph of sunlight passing through the clouds onto Howe Sound, British Columbia, Canada.

Three  bloggers posted four Bright responses this week. =) Thank you everyone!
