Gratitude ~ Pic and a Word Challenge #150

Himalayan Foothills Sunrise, Kunjapuri Devi Temple, Rishikesh, Uttarakhand, India
The sun rises into a cloud-softened sky
Gentle foothills roll lazily to a distant horizon
A solo journey through an ungentle darkness ends
As I arrive in the light I realize
I am no longer alone, was never really alone
That no one arrives in such light
Entirely alone

I am struck by the depth of gratitude
Rising like a sun with my own inner light
For the guidance, support and encouragement
Offered by family and friends and mentors
And the generous kindness of strangers
Who have made of themselves
Friends

I stand here
In the light
With my platoon
Ready to take on
Anything

Thank You

Last week we started something Epic. Well, at least I did, with a journey of creation completed this past week with the mounting of my solo gallery exhibit, Harmony in Word in Form, presently showing through the end of September at Gallery Bistro in Port Moody, BC, Canada. I apologize for the disruption to my regular postings on this blog, and for the 4 week hiatus here at Pic and a Word Challenge. All my creative energy has been directed at prepping and completing the show.

Now that it is, and I have somehow managed again to create something a little bit larger than myself, it’s time to thank everyone who made that possible. That thank you extends to the avid followers and occasional visitors and the folks who just stop by once to this blog. Thank you, for the insights you provide in comments, for the inspiration you provide in your responses to this challenge, for the simple gesture of reading what I write, taking in the photographs I’ve captured. Some people say writing is a lonely undertaking. I, however, always feel like I have a small crowd standing by my side, eager to see what I post, cheering me on. For that, I am grateful to the core. I count you among my platoon. Among my friends and family.

So, this week, let’s express our gratitude, or discover something else to inspire you in this photograph of a glorious sunrise shot from a mountaintop Hindu Temple in the Himalayan foothills of northern India.

The Pic and a Word Challenge is a weekly creativity prompt offered Sundays.

Each week I provide a photograph of mine along with a single word. The challenge? Use the pic and/or word as points of inspiration to create something — a photograph, a painting, prose, poetry, fiction, non-fiction, longread or just a few words. You are welcome to use these two elements (photograph and word) literally, thematically or metaphorically. If you create both images and words, all the better.

To participate:

  • Use any title you like
  • Your response can be words and/or an image
  • You may use my image in your post, or any image you have created
  • Place the challenge’s Pic (if you use it for inspiration) and Word prominently in your post
  • Mention that you are responding to the Pic and a Word Challenge
  • Add a link to this post in your response

To help us find your response — whether on WordPress, Instagram, Flicker, Tumblr, etc. — you can also:

  • Add a comment on this post to announce your response
  • Apply the tag/hashtag “Pic and a Word Challenge” or “#picandawordchallenge” to your post

Each week, I’ll list the previous week’s responses at the end of the new challenge. I may also share some on my social media: Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Tumblr, etc.

Last week’s challenge: Epic

The word for last week’s Pic and a Word Challenge #149 was Epic, along with this video of clouds racing up the sides of the Tantalus Mountain Range in British Columbia, Canada.

Ten Epic responses from nine bloggers this past loooong month! Way to go, everyone! Thank you. =)
