Monochrome Chaos

Propeller Wash, Queen of Cowichan, Horseshoe Bay, West Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada

Simplified to monochrome
The world remains chaotic
And seeing it in black and white
Obscures the details of its tumult

So too the beauty of the world
Its colour makes it vibrant
And lacking subtle textures
Diminishes its glory

Lovely … guessed it was water, but had thought a weir somewhere! Instead I now have visions of travel. Perfection.

  <smile> I love black and white. The tones, the texture. It aptly captures movement and form. I love the way it asks the eye to reconsider the world in a new visual context.
  
  Nonetheless, black and white — and monochrome — is reductive in that it reduces the information of a scene. And, of course, this reduction allows for the poetic metaphor of this post’s words.
  
  When I see the world in terms of black and white, when I reduce it to shades of grey, I irresponsibly simplify my understanding of a much more complex (and beautiful) world, often making it uglier than it really is.
