The light in the depths

Snowline, Scored Granite, Athabasca Glacier, Jasper National Park, Alberta, Canada
My toes in the water
So still
They cast no ripple
Even as the milfoil sways
Gently tickling my skin

My shadow on the pond
Consumed by the canopy of trees
Ringed by the light blue sky
The reflections smooth and steady
Upon a surface of euclidian perfection

In this state of peace
I gaze
Into the depths
Into the darkness
Shrouded in intricate pattern

Not below the water’s surface
But my own

While the milfoil reaches
For the sun above me
I know my own light
Lies deep within the darkness
Where my spirit swims
