In the hills
The remote places
Small communities
Mostly self sufficient
Where the ubiquitous cell phone
Has no power
Connected to the world
By a narrow road

It’s these places
Where we are most
Who we are

Even a lone traveller
Stopping for a while
Sipping spicy hot chai
Amid broken conversation
With a shop owner
As curious about who I am
As I am about who she is

I push on
After learning
Just a little bit more
About the world
And my place in it
