Honey on Burnt Toast

Sometimes
Reciting aphorisms and positivity
In bad times
Is like spreading honey
On burnt toast
It’s sweeter
But the toast is still burnt
And it tastes like shite

Sometimes
It’s better
If I just throw the toast out
Pop a couple fresh slices
Into the toaster
Rather than eat the toast
Thinking there’s possibly
Some mighty lesson in it
