Icicle

Nudge

Nudge

Nudge the icicle

Just a little…
A little harder

With all my subtle energy

Nudge

Creaking

Nudge

Crack

Crack

Crack!

It falls

Falls and falls

Then strikes him
My killer

Not the piercing
The killing blow
I’d sought

But it strikes him
And he falls

And falls

Over the edge
He falls

Then strikes the ground
With a gratifying thud
Accompanied by a gasp

The air forced from
His now empty lungs

His life forced from
His murderous body

My murderer
As dead as I

As murdered as I

There is so little
I can affect
In this material realm
So little I can effect

Justice
Is a miracle

There’s a moment in a particular novel which inspired this poem about the spirit of a dead person who exacts a certain revenge on her murderer. If you’ve read it, you’ll recognize it. If you haven’t, well, I won’t spoil it for you. 😉
