Atmosphere ~ Pic and a Word Challenge #32

Ambleside Park, West Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada
There is a mood
No
An atmosphere
To existence

An atmosphere I choose

An atmosphere within which
All events occur
And through which
All events are perceived

It is the atmosphere
Of life itself
Of being
Of essence

An atmosphere I create

Which flows all around me
Which I breathe in
Which I express, with every breath
And every action

That atmosphere is as much
A manifestation of me
As the body
My spirit inhabits

A year ago, I began this blog with Seeking ~ Being, a blog entry featuring this image.

I’ve been blogging since 1995, when I began posting the photographs and writings from my travels as my “eJournal” (no one could agree on what to call ‘online diaries’ at the time — the word “blog” wouldn’t be coined for a few more years) … I’ve started several other blogs since then, with a variety of themes. These all lie dormant now. I just couldn’t sustain the words they called for.

But something about this format of bringing words to my own photographs has really sparked my creativity — not to mention transformed me into a poet. In the 366 days since I began this blog I have posted 659 poems, short stories and essays. That’s an average of nearly 2 posts per day. Of these, 577 are poems.

It has been quite a satisfying year. And I’d like to thank you all, my readers and visitors, for reading, for commenting, for following. I am in your debt; I’m not sure I could have sustained this without such an enthusiastic and generous audience.

The Pic and a Word Challenge is a weekly creativity prompt offered Sunday mornings.

Each week I provide a photograph of mine along with a single word. The challenge? Use the pic and/or word as points of inspiration to create something — a photograph, a painting, prose, poetry, fiction, non-fiction, longread or just a few words. You are welcome to use these two elements (photograph and word) literally, thematically or metaphorically. If you create both images and words, all the better.

To participate:

  • Use any title you like
  • Your response can be words and/or an image
  • Better if the words are your own
  • You may use my image in your post, or any image you have created
  • Place the challenge’s Pic (if you use it for inspiration) and Word prominently in your post
  • Mention that you are responding to the Pic and a Word Challenge
  • Add a link to this post in your response

To help us find your response, you can also:

Each week, I’ll list the previous week’s responses at the end of the new challenge. I may also share some on my social media: Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Tumblr, etc.

Last week longevity… This week, let’s create some atmosphere.

Last week’s challenge: Connection

Challenge #31 ~ Longevity
The word for last week’s Pic and a Word Challenge #31 was Longevity, along with this photograph of Australia’s Kata Tjuta (The Olgas).

One blogger kept up the pace this week. Thanks CJ! =)
