Barren Branches

Howe Sound Twilight, Sea to Sky Highway, British Columbia, Canada
In the blue calm twilight
Of a winter’s day
The scraggle of barren branches
Reminds me

Of hardscrabble lives
For creatures without fire, food and shelter
And the human beings who cannot afford them

Evolution provided the path
For creatures to adapt

Necessity, the path for humans

April is National Poetry Month and I am participating in the National Poetry Writing Month challenge (NaPoWriMo) — 30 poems in 30 days. Though, I’ll no doubt write more than 30. 😉 All the poetry I write this month can be found here.

This post is also a response to this week’s WordPress Photo Challenge, Landscape.
