Gentle Time

Set beside the gentle brook
Which cut the mountains high above
Now settled under gentle light
I wonder at the water’s might

O’er gentle time
In nature’s flow
The lightest rain
Must downward go

It carves through rock
It withers stone
With flood’s caress
The mountains honed

I watch the swirl of subtle eddies
Around the rocks which once were high
Now settled low on valley floor
Soon floods will come and cut some more
