Darkness Falls Upon the Forest

With the setting sun, transforms
The forest’s verdant peace
Vibrant colour fails
Songs of life receding

As darkness falls
Lofty boughs become
Gnarled trunk’s
Twisted branches, grasping

Mysterious rustlings
Disturbing leaves
Night’s inhabitants
Skitterings and stalkings

Hoots and howls
And chittering
Sounds, my ears illuminate
Of ghost and goblin alike
