The Shadow I cast

Unlike the many monuments I have seen
The mountains and skyscrapers
All so grand and inspiring

I will be remembered
Not for the appearance I present
But for the shadow I cast

Really love your message in this poem…and it saddens me to think that the shadow I’ve cast will not be remembered well…though we don’t really ever know, do we.

  I don’t know, J… I’ve had a look at your blog. Your shadow seems quite beautiful to me. : )
  
  What I mean by “shadow” in this poem is the effect we have on people’s lives, the ‘wake’ we leave behind. Are people’s lives enriched by our presence?
  
  I touch upon this theme again in today’s Pic and a Word Challenge: Footprints
  
  The poem is a reminder to myself: “every now and again, check your shadow, observe how it falls, and who is affected by your work, Patrick. Be careful to assure your effect is positive.”
  
  In that sense, it’s a look at the present, not the past.
