Photo Essay: Sanding ~ Continents

Continents
Concepts flow in my mind
Like continents
Ideas emerge from oceans of possibility
Sink into them, and become lost
They collide, synthesizing one from two
Divide, calving two from one

In this maelstrom of thinking
The mind in which thoughts
Flow and rise and fall
In which they collide and divide
Remains whole
Remains in harmony
Remains at peace

Knowing
I am not my thoughts
Thoughts
Do not dominate me

My mind
Becomes still
Seas and continents
Become one
Possibility and reality
Become the same
Creativity
Becomes effortless

Fibreglass boat in dry dock

Last weekend I happened across a sailboat in dry dock, under renovation. Fascinated by the way sanding the hull smooth had created patterns in layers of paint and fiberglass, I ran off a few dozen shots with my Canon. Fertile ground for abstraction, I think I’ll see how many images and words these will generate. This is the first.
