On concrete sky
The world we make
Makes nature sigh
Police stations
And hospitals
Apartment buildings
And condemned spaces
Secret headquarters
And schools of magic
When the flash came
Night became a day like no other
Just several seconds long
With the intensity of a hundred suns
When the flash came
I was happy not to be in a doorway
As I watched the paint sizzle
In the nuclear sunlight
And the tunnel
Is only the sum of my fears
Confining me
The light is soft
Though harsh
Streaming in
Through doors
All open
On the right
An inviting light
Nonetheless too bright
And as I tread
Ever-so-gingerly
Down the corridor
I close my eyes
And dream of sky
Pretend there’s green
Hear the song
Feel the breeze
And the sun’s blue rays
A pattern played
Their brightness seized
Turned back on them
A harsher light
By broken souls
Who feed on other’s weakness
The Rain
The Sun
The Cold
The Heat
In the many battles of opposites
Nothing lasts forever
Except balance
But on closer inspection
I realized
It was the surface
Of a turquoise planet
Where a river once ran
Along a cerulean canyon
Carved through southern aqua badlands
